“When I was first looking to make the transition into product management, I would reach out to new people who worked on the business side of tech companies and would take at least two people out to coffee a week. I’d sit, listen, and take notes, and made sure to follow up with them the moment I got back home. There were so many buzzwords that I didn’t know about, so I educated myself by reading blogs and watching YouTube videos. After understanding the key skill sets that hiring managers look for, I reframed my resume to highlight things like metrics, initiative, strategy, and collaboration—traits that I could speak to from my past without having to make up facts.”
