Each month, this space will be dedicated to a library resource or service available free with your Omaha Public Library card.
Many people dream of being their own boss by turning their passion into their profession. While this path can be fulfilling, it can also be quite daunting. In fact, while 80 percent of small businesses make it through their first year, only 55 percent make it to five.
Omaha Public Library can help to set the stage for success with Gale Small Business Builder.
This online resource offers valuable information for new entrepreneurs, experienced business owners and nonprofits alike by helping them to plan, start or optimize their organization.
Those new to small business ownership will experience a gradual introduction to entrepreneurial concepts and elements. For more seasoned business persons, the focus shifts toward outcome-based activities to support the management and growth of an operation, such as getting a loan, seeking investors, buying new equipment or opening new facilities.
Gale Small Business Builder enables nonprofits to create a grant proposal the same way a new startup would write a business plan. Structuring a nonprofit’s creation and operation allows founders to focus on enhancing their organization’s social mission.
Using five areas of exploration (entrepreneur profile, business ideation, break-even analysis, business plans and financial projections), users interact with a step-by-step outline toward advancing their business. Furthermore, users will have access to a dashboard of tools to address needs at every level.
The interface can be translated into 13 languages and offers a guided approach to the order of work and shows progress and completion. Additionally, supplemental resources, tools and templates are available to assist the user in creating documents and other deliverables.
Getting started is simple. Visit omahalibrary.org and select “Resource Center” from the toolbar. Click on “Gale Small Business Builder” from the featured resources at the top of the page or select it from a list of “All Resources.” Create a user profile and answer a few questions to help set you on the proper course for what you hope to achieve.
Be one of the 55 percent by getting started with Gale Small Business Builder today.
